I would rather...
Goals
- Help team members get to know each other better
- Spark mutual curiosity about individual values, personality and preferences
- Share a few laughs!
What you need
- no material needed
Preparation
Have a list of 'Would you rather...' questions at hand, ranging from silly/casual to choices related to work and life behaviours and values. For instance:
Would you rather take a long lunch break every day or leave work an hour early every day?
Here are more example questions, feel free to use them. You're encouraged to have fun and come up with your more questions of your own!
The questions do not need to offer a choice between opposite options. They can also invite people to choose between two unrelated statements, which can reveal how they prioritise their values.
Running the activity
- Get people on their feet if you're co-located
- Ask them to move to your left or right based on their individual answer to your questions
If you're meeting remotely, you can ask participants to position themselves on a virtual board or to react with a different emoji in the video call.
Asking follow up questions is a great way to engage with the group and challenge their answers.
During the activity, you can let team members get creative and throw in their own 'Would you rather...' questions.
You can keep the activity going as long as the team is enjoying it. It's sure to deliver a few surprises from unexpected answers in the group, and maybe create a shared moment of fun that the team can remember.
